Did you know?

Compost is a rich organic fertilizer - it is high in nitrogen, and retains moisture to reduce watering needs.

A worm casting (also known as worm cast or vermicast) is a biologically active mound containing thousands of bacteria, enzymes, and remnants of plant materials that were not digested by the earthworm. The composting process continues after a worm casting has been deposited. In fact, the bacterial population of a cast is much greater than the bacterial population of either ingested soil, or the earthworm's gut.

Castings contain slow release nutrients which are readily available to plants. Castings contain the plant nutrients which are secreted by the earthworms. They dissolve slowly rather than allowing intermediate nutrient leaching. The product has excellent soil structure, porosity, aeration and water retention capabilities. The product can insulate plant roots from extreme temperatures, reduce erosion and control weeds. It is odorless and consists of 100% recycled materials.

Worm castings are much cheaper and do a much better job. Worm castings hold 2-3 times their weight in water.
When prepared properly, worm tea should be virtually odorless and is a valuable organic amendment for the soil, in potted plants, for use in organic gardening.
Landfills contain more food and paper waste than diapers, styrofoam, and tires - combined.
Worm castings will not burn your plants; unlike using any fresh raw manures (cow, horse, etc.) which can burn root systems if it is not applied properly.
Food is the #1 least recycled of all waste materials.
Methane from landfills is 21 times more potent than carbon dioxide for global warming.
Pesticides kill indiscriminately, killing pests along with their natural insect predators. This leads to the irony of pesticide use: once insect predators are eliminated, pest populations grow unchecked - leading to ever-greater pesticide applications. You can take charge of your home and garden without the use of pesticides and inspire others to do the same.
Each year 67 million pounds of pesticides are applied to lawns.
Children are particularly vulnerable to pesticides, and the most likely to be exposed to lawn pesticides. Children living in homes using pesticides (indoor or outdoor) are at higher risk for developing brain cancer, childhood leukemia, lymphoma, and asthma.
Garden chemicals harm the environment. The U.S. Geological Survey routinely finds every type of garden chemical - particularly weed killers - in the streams and rivers around urban centers.
